A small car (not Hyundai’s smallest – that’s the Accent) that has the interior space of a mid-size sedan, gets great fuel economy, has stellar safety ratings, and includes generous features for the price—we could spend a long time talking about how much we like the Elantra.

But you don’t have to just take our word for it. You can take the word of Consumer Reports, which just named the 2010 Hyundai Elantra the best model of the year among small sedans.

“It’s a solid, all-around car that’s relatively comfortable, quiet, and roomy, and provides good fuel economy and plenty of features for the price,” wrote Consumer Reports about the ’10 Elantra.

To be named to the Consumer Reports “Top Picks” list, a car must stack up in three areas: road test, reliability, and safety. In addition to the Elantra’s standard ABS and Electronic Stability Control, it features standard curtain airbags, ranks near the top of its class for overall drivability, and has a high reliability rating from actual Elantra owners.

Getting on the front page of Motor Trend magazine is no small accomplishment. So the fact that the upcoming 2011 Buick Regal is on the cover of Motor Trend’s most current issue is big news. It’s been 28 years since the last time Buick had a cover feature, and Motor Trend’s editors are calling the 2011 Regal “one of the most important Buicks ever launched.”

Besides being an overall stellar vehicle (more on that below), the 2011 Buick Regal is particularly well poised to spread to another segment of the market: “young, affluent, trend-setting import buyers.”

In Motor Trend’s review, they regularly refer to the Regal’s performance, handling, and interior as distinctly “European” in feel. “The closest thing to the Regal,” they write “is the Acura TSX,” but the Regal has better handling, better fuel economy, and a better price.

The Regal will come with high-performing transmission (automatic as well as manual – one of the first Buicks to offer manual since the late 80’s) and an available turbo-charged I-4 engine. In terms of style and overall feel, the Regal boasts “internationally chic” appearance with “sophisticated road manners to match,” writes Motor Trend.
