Infiniti has responded to the demand for smaller, efficient cars with rumors of a new small sedan. The proposed vehicle could allow Infiniti to compete in the small sedan market, which is especially critical considering Nissan (the automaker’s parent company) isn’t interested in released such a vehicle for at least three years. Similarly, Infiniti may also be planning to release a small SUV to compete with similar luxury sedans of a larger variety offered by BMW and Lexus.

The design, technology and features of the vehicles have yet to be released; as of right now, these proposals are simply rumored and discussed vaguely by Nissan and Infiniti executives. When it comes to GM vehicles, Dan Neil – an auto columnist for the Wall Street Journal – has never been a big fan. However, he recently reviewed the new 2011 Buick Regal CXL Turbo and much to his own surprise and the surprise of his readers, he liked it. Furthermore, he acknowledged the fact that this was a huge success for GM, especially considering a recent investment in the company made by none other than the U.S. government. Instead of proving our politicians wrong and failing miserably, GM has come out stronger on the other side, producing a vehicle that has impressed even one of the most consistently anti-GM car reporters in the country.

The 2011 Buick Regal, which Neil goes so far as to say is “kind of terrific,” is a midsize sedan powered by a 2.4-liter, 182-horsepower four cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission. A forthcoming edition will include a 225-horsepower engine and all-wheel drive. It has a sharp clean look from the outside and plenty of fun features on the inside, including heated leather seats, Onstar and Bluetooth technology.  Among some of Neil’s favorite elements of the new Regal were the “impeccable” central console arrangement and the smooth way the car handles like a “European sport sedan.”

Hybrids, electric cars and fuel efficiency are a hot trend in the auto industry right now. Dozens of green cars have already been released, and Nissan has even announced eight all-electric vehicles to be unveiled over the next five years. However, there haven’t been any definite plans for an electric vehicle from Infiniti, Nissan’s luxury line.

Fortunately, there have been rumors about an electric Infiniti hatchback which could solve the dilemma for luxury car drivers who want a greener option. Top Gear seemed confirmed these rumors a few months ago, saying the electric hatchback may be released in 2014. The hatchback will accommodate the smaller size needed for a battery-run car while also appealing to a larger market.

Infiniti has already made some steps towards a greener car, however. The Infiniti M35 Hybrid was first displayed in March of this year. While Nissan has generally favored an all-electric car as an environmental solution, the M35 Hybrid was created in response to drivers who still want the same power and comfort offered by a larger luxury vehicle. It looks as though hybrids will likely be a common offering from Infiniti and other luxury brands over the coming years since an electric vehicle generally can’t offer the size and power drivers expect from a luxury car.

It appears as though Hyundai may have outdone themselves again. With the announcement of the new 2011 Hyundai Equus, this automaker is well on its way to setting the new standard in luxury large sedans without the luxury price. It’s already available overseas, so experts have released several reviews and ratings in the previous months. As far as we know, this model should become available in the U.S. by the time 2011 rolls around.

Although the U.S. News & World Report confirms that most of the auto press has labeled the Equus as a huge gamble for the automaker, Hyundai has proven to car reviewers around the world that this sedan can certainly become a popular semi-luxury model. In Asian markets, it has done incredibly well. Now, as we anxiously await it’s arrival in U.S. showrooms, many wonder whether this model can stand up to its competitors, those being the likes of Mercedes S-Class, the BMW 7 Series and the Lexus LS – not very easy competition, to say the least.

After a long wait that spans nearly three years, car lovers can finally catch a glimpse of the new Cadillac CTS Coupe. The new model is currently on its way to showrooms all over the U.S. This two-door model offers a sportier version of the Cadillac midsize vehicles, with all the bells and whistles expected from the stylish automaker. It looks like Volkswagen fans will finally get a chance to combine a practical, midsize sedan with the sleek VW style they’ve grown to love. Paul Horrell of Motor Trend reports that VW plans to begin building these cars in early 2011. This new vehicle will fulfill the needs of families and couples who need the functional sedan size offered by cars like the Camry and the Fusion. VW, which has previously neglected to offer a vehicle that matches the size and taste associated with these vehicles, is poised to bring in thousands of new customers with this new offering. This vehicle, which has been tentatively titled the NMS (New Midsize Sedan), will allow VW to compete with other groups which have previously dominated the midsize sedan market, such as Toyota and Honda.

The expected cost of the vehicle will be low, made with parts similar to or the same as the Passat and the Jetta but without extensive noise reduction engineering. However, VW will uphold their commitment to creating greener cars by offering a V-6 gas engines along with a TDI option. Transmission options will likely include a 5-speed manual or 6-speed double clutch. Other projected features include a larger trunk area, an increase in the size and number of cupholders, extra legroom and an interface which can connect to a variety of mobile devices.
