It appears as though Hyundai may have outdone themselves again. With the announcement of the new 2011 Hyundai Equus, this automaker is well on its way to setting the new standard in luxury large sedans without the luxury price. It’s already available overseas, so experts have released several reviews and ratings in the previous months. As far as we know, this model should become available in the U.S. by the time 2011 rolls around.

Although the U.S. News & World Report confirms that most of the auto press has labeled the Equus as a huge gamble for the automaker, Hyundai has proven to car reviewers around the world that this sedan can certainly become a popular semi-luxury model. In Asian markets, it has done incredibly well. Now, as we anxiously await it’s arrival in U.S. showrooms, many wonder whether this model can stand up to its competitors, those being the likes of Mercedes S-Class, the BMW 7 Series and the Lexus LS – not very easy competition, to say the least.

Edmunds.com is one of the most trusted and popular sites for researching a new car. But what if you’re in the market for a pre-owned vehicle? Comparing how vehicles were when they were new doesn’t give you the best idea of how they’ll hold up over time.

But Edmunds.com has you covered: they recently released their list of Used Car Best Bets for 2010, and two different models from our Santa Clarita Hyundai dealership topped their respective categories:

2010 Hyundai Genesis

• Edmunds.com, one of the most respected sites for researching new cars, recently compiled a list of the “Top 10 Best Dark-Horse Cars” of 2010. These aren’t the cars that people typically start with when looking for a new vehicle, but they really should be (and are often better than the mainstays). Both the 2010 Hyundai Genesis and 2011 Hyundai Sonata made the list, although Edmunds expects they won’t be dark horses for much longer with all the attention they’ve been getting.
• J.D. Power and Associates is one of the top research firms on all things automotive. Each year, they survey thousands of new-car owners after 3 months of ownership. Owners are asked about both the performance and behavior of the car, as well as the quality of features, design, comfort, and more: 48 items in all. The 2011 Hyundai Sonata scored so high (a record high) that J.D. Power invented an award (the President’s Award) to commemorate it.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is one of the most esteemed safety institutions in the U.S., second only to (or perhaps equal with) the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
